Your body knows the way.

Somatic coaching in Chicago for the things that thinking and talking through hasn't been able to reach.

You've done the work. You've talked it through, journaled it out, and tried to think your way to feeling better. And yet something still feels stuck. Held. Braced for impact.

That's because some experiences don't live in the mind — they live in the body. In the tightness across your shoulders. In the breath you've been holding for years. In the way you flinch, freeze, or go numb before you even know why.

Somatic coaching works differently. Instead of reframing your story, we work with your nervous system directly — releasing the patterns stored in your tissues, restoring safety in your cells, and helping your body remember what it feels like to be whole.

This is healing that happens in the body, not just the mind.

"Somatic" comes from the Greek word for body. Somatic coaching is a body-centered approach to healing and transformation that works with the wisdom already living inside you.

Where talk therapy helps you understand your patterns, somatic coaching helps you change them — at the level of your nervous system, your physiology, and your neurochemistry. We don't just reframe what happened. We help your body let it go.

It might look like gentle movement and breathwork. Guided awareness through sensation. A conversation between you and your nervous system, with me holding the space.

In our work together, you'll learn to:

  • Trust your body as a source of wisdom, not a source of threat.

  • Release deeply held tension — the armor you've been wearing without realizing it.

  • Regulate your nervous system so you can move out of fight, flight, and freeze.

  • Build tolerance for calm — because safety can feel unfamiliar when you've been braced for so long.

  • Develop interoceptive awareness — the ability to feel what's happening inside you, in real time.

  • Make space for ease, self-compassion, and authentic presence.

This is not about fixing you. You are not broken. This is about coming fully home to yourself.

What becomes possible when your body finally feels safe.

Clients come in carrying tension, trauma, and the exhaustion of holding it all together. They leave with something they didn't expect to find so soon.

Clarity
A quiet knowing that cuts through the noise.

Lightness
A felt sense of being less burdened.

Calm
That settles in without effort.

Confidence
Grounded in your body, not your armor.

Connection
With yourself, and everyone around you.

Trust
In yourself, in others,
in life.

Ease
A profound sense of calm and grounded presence.

Release
Of patterns that were never truly yours to carry.

Peace
The quiet, full-bodied sense that all is well.

A deep knowing that anything is possible — and that nothing is necessary.

Healing happens when we trust the body.

Modern life tells us to push through, optimize, and figure it out on our own. Our work together is a soft and powerful counterpoint to all of that.

I understand the body at the level of tissue, nerve, and breath. I understand trauma as something stored, held quietly in the body until it feels safe enough to release. And I understand that healing unfolds naturally — the moment the body finally feels witnessed, understood, and held with care.

Paced with intention. Rooted in safety.

Every session is yours to direct. You decide what we explore, how far we go, and when we stop — and that can change at any moment, for any reason. I never move faster than your nervous system can integrate, because pace isn't just a courtesy here. It's the work itself. Safety isn't the precondition for healing. It is the healing.

This work meets you wherever you are.

  • You've done therapy and feel like something is still missing

  • You carry stress, tension, or anxiety in your body and can't seem to shake it

  • You have a history of trauma — childhood wounds, relationship injuries, or experiences your mind has processed but your body hasn't

  • You feel disconnected from yourself — going through the motions, numb, or always slightly braced

  • You're a high-achiever who is exhausted by the effort it takes to hold everything together

  • You want to feel more at home in your own skin

  • You're in a season of transition and want to move through it with grace

You don't have to have everything figured out to begin. You just have to be willing to slow down and listen.

"The deep feelings of safety and caring that permeate Gayle's space and being are my favorite things about her work. She's created a space and a manner that allow me to truly relax, set my burden down, stop the noise of the world outside, and receive the nurturing gift of touch."

Three months. Weekly sessions. Genuine transformation.

Somatic coaching is offered as a three-month commitment — weekly sessions, in person in my West Lakeview studio or online.

This is intentional. Real nervous system change takes time, repetition, and relationship. Three months gives your body the consistent safety it needs to genuinely reorganize — not just feel better for a few days. The investment is $3,000 for the full three-month program.

This is intimate, focused work. I take on a small number of somatic coaching clients at a time to ensure each person receives my full presence and attention.

Not sure if somatic coaching is right for you? Reach out. We'll explore it together.

Sometimes the body needs its own kind of attention.

If you're in therapy and feel like something is still just out of reach — like you understand what happened but your body hasn't quite caught up — this work might be what's missing.

Talk therapy helps you make sense of your experience. It names the patterns, reframes the beliefs, and builds insight. This work goes somewhere different. It works at the level of the nervous system, the tissue, the breath — the places where stress and trauma live long after the mind has processed them. The two can work together in ways that neither can accomplish alone.

I work collaboratively alongside therapists, and my work pairs especially well with approaches like Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, where what happens in the body and what happens in the mind are understood as part of the same story.

If something here resonates, it might be worth bringing up with your therapist. Many clients find their way to this work through that conversation — and I’m glad to connect with your care team if that feels right to you.

Your body carries your story. Every tight muscle, every area of tension, every sensation is a reflection of your lived experience. In our sessions, we honor these stories with gentle presence and attentive care.

We begin by witnessing and telling our truth. We continue by speaking kindness into that truth. And we arrive at a place of clarity, trust, and lightness — where healing flows naturally.
